The Troy Cowboys accept children ages 5-13, with an age cutoff of August 1st. Levels are Flag, Freshman, JV, and Varsity.  We are proud members of the Oakland Macomb Youth Football Association (OMYFA).

Our football coaches, cheer coaches, and Board members are all Heads Up certified in concussion awareness.  For more information, please visit the Heads Up website.  We also have staff that are CPR Certified and AED trained.  

OMYFA  Ages and Grades

Flag Cheer:  All participants must be (5) years old by August 1st though 7 years old. Its not mandatory to take a 5 year old but at the Franchises discretion, Teams may do so and the Troy Cowboys do.  Athletes will practice 3-4 days a week and perform at both the Flag Bowl and at Cheer Off at the end of the season.  No scoring is given to our Flag Cheer Athletes at Cheer Off.

Freshman, JV and Varsity: Eligibility date for 8-13 year olds will be as of August 1st.  There will be no High School students allowed. 

Atheletes will compete in the annual Cheer Off competition in both a cheer round and a dance round against all the other OMYFA cities.  Awards are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and is held in November.  (This is an all day event)

There cannot be dual enrollment in another cheer,  gymnastics or dance program during the OMYFA season.  They can be on the waitlist for those competitive teams to hold their spot, just not active on the roster during our season.  

Middle School Aged:  athletes can try out for their competitive cheer teams for winter since practices dont start until after our season has concluded.  (Tryouts are typically in Nov)

Age and Grade Limits for each squad:

•     Flag: Ages 5-7 years olds, K-2nd grade
•     Freshmen: Ages 8 & 9, 3rd-4th grade
•     JV: Ages 10 & 11, 5th-6th grade
•     Varsity: Ages 12 & 13, 7th-8th grade
